Welcome to the Port Authority Police JFK Commissary Fund
How the Fund Started
Way back when (mid 60 's) Bob Considine, Gil Breden, and myself (Mel Klawsky) were
assigned to desk duty and emergency response. We started the commissary. This was to
have coffee, tea, and hot chocolate available at a cost of $1.00 per month. We later added
a soda machine. This gave us money for the same things you spend monies on. We also had
(at the expense of the PA) large cans of soup for the winter months. I remember a few times
during winter storms that forced us to pick up travelers around the airport and feed them.
Oh those war stories.

Today
Today, the Port Authority Police JFK Commissary Fund has over 400 members from our 14
commands. Instead of the twelve dollars dues a year when the commissary first started,
members pay twenty five dollars dues a year and receive a gold ring when they complete
twenty years of service, and a plaque when they retire at the annual JFK Commissary
Party in May. The dues also pays for the condiments and kitchen supplies needed for its
members at JFK. Besides the Annual JFK Commissary Party, the JFK commissary also
hosts an Annual Golf Outing and the return of the Annual Christmas Party. If you are a
member of the Port Authority of NY and NJ Police Department and would like to join,
contact us at: 718-244-4123 or e-mail at:
